Is there a writer who inspires you?
Noam Chomsky is an American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, logician, political commentator, social justice activist and anarcho-syndicalist advocate. Chomsky has published more than 100 books, is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and The National Academy of Sciences, and received honorary degrees and honorary doctorates from some 39 institutions spread all across the globe. I think his book Manufacturing Consent is required reading in almost any social science course in University. I was introduced to his work while studying political science as a mature student at the University of Western Ontario (now called Western University . . . not sure how I feel about that).
Two quotes from Chomsky which I think are particularly fitting:

The more you can increase fear of drugs and crime, welfare mothers, immigrants and aliens, the more you control all the people.
