Let's Travel Canada ~ Lake Ontario

#26 on the Let's Travel Canada list is Lake Ontario. That seems a bit of a broad geographical area so I'm going to make a list of the places I recall visiting along the shores of Lake Ontario. Niagara-on-the-Lake ~ The Olde Angel Inn is the oldest operating inn in Ontario. The Olde Angel Inn was established in 1789 and rebuilt in 1815 after the War of 1812. We enjoyed a wonderful English meal there one day so I was shocked to see they have absolutely no idea how to make a proper cup of tea. Wineries -- Lots and lots of wineries. We spent an afternoon on a wine tour at Chateau des Charmes where we learned how to taste wines and then enjoyed an afternoon of cheese and wine pairings and an extra bottle of brut (can't call it champagne because it isn't made in the Champagne region of France) because it was our anniversary.  Heritage District -- loved the Niagara Apothecary Museum . So charming. We've been to the Fort George National Historic Site of Canada ...

Are you a boatnerd in Iroquios, Ontario

Our very first official stop on our recent east coast road trip (does not include snack stops and bathroom breaks) was to Iroquois, Ontario. Iroquois is a small town of 1,000 on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. We stopped in Iroquois for lunch, to see the Iroquois lock, and to find a letterbox. We were very successful in all three. When you are in a strange town, especially a small town, the only way to find the best food is to ask the locals. We were directed to Yefsi's which serves Greek, Italian, and Canadian food. We made friends with some of the locals who say they pretty much live at the restaurant. We met a group of veterans on a motorcycle road trip. Pleasant conversation and good food; what more could one ask for? The Iroquois Canal was part of the Williamsburg Canal, with a lock system designed to overcome the Galop Rapids by raising or lowering the river boats by 20 feet. The old lock may still be seen at the end of Carman Road on the way to...

Day 1 of Our Road Trip to the East Coast

We are on holiday.  Yay!  Dear hubby and I are driving to the east coast, exploring as much as possible, and returning home in 14 days. I am an organizer so I created an envelope for each day of our trip and put all the pertinent information and maps in each. At 6 am this morning we opened the envelope for Day 1 . . .  Such a beautiful part of the province.  Hal even let me drive my car for a couple of hours.  That almost never happens.  But it gave him a chance to just sight see without having to watch where he was going. Our first stop was Iroquois ON.  How do you find the best food in town?  Find some locals who are just hanging out chatting.  Two lovely gentlemen pointed us in the direction of Yesfi's which is located in a small shopping plaza.  Good service.  Good food.  Very friendly people . . . staff and customers.  We had a delightful time sharing travel stories with couples at two othe...
