Book Review ~ After the War is Over by Jennifer Robson
After the War is Over is the second of three books in a series by Jennifer Robson.
This time around the author focuses on Lilly's former governess and tutor, Charlotte Brown, who has been in love with Lilly's brother, Edward, since the very first time they met. Edward is engaged. And then he is serving during WWI and engaged. And then he comes home a different person. And don't forget, there is also Edward's haughty titled family to overcome. Do they ever find the right time for their love? I guess you better read the book to find out.
It is obvious that the author puts a lot of time into research because details and events are so descriptive. It is a captivating read and should be on your bedside table or in your beach bag.

Close To My Heart ~ Scrapbooking with Fresh Paint Made Easy!
Scrapbooking with Fresh Paint Made Easy!
Ever notice that trends tend to repeat themselves, every 20–30 years? Like a blast from the past, the Fresh Paint collection, one of our newest paper collections found in our current catalog, delivers nostalgic 90’s themes that have reclaimed a place in today’s world. As memory keepers, we know all about revisiting the past, so it makes perfect sense to embrace these trends when it comes to designing and creating a place to preserve our memories–old and new!
Let’s take a fresh look at these new “old” designs from the Fresh Paint collection, and look at a few different ways to use them to make timeless scrapbook pages!
As a jumping off point for scrapbook pages, we offer a scrapbooking workshop kit as part of each of our collections. These use the same patterned papers, and often embellishments from the suite, along with additional coordinating exclusive products to create three two-page 12″ x 12″ layouts.
What’s great about these kits, including the Fresh Paint scrapbooking workshop kit, is that they come with everything you need to replicate artwork that was already designed with the themes and patterns of the collection in mind. The included instructions are easy to follow, but loose enough to leave room for your own ideas, too. You can follow them exactly or mix it up by going off-script, re-arranging pieces, and embellishing with stickers and die-cuts as you please. And, if you have more photos than fit in the layout, there are simple solutions for adding them!
The above layout is one of the three layouts from the Fresh Paint scrapbooking workshop. Our Creative Arts Manager, Karen Pedersen, used it to scrapbook one of her recent family gatherings. Karen loves to take photos of her family, so naturally she had more than what was allotted on the pages of the layout. To include all of her photos in her scrapbook and within this layout, Karen added a couple of different sized Pocket Plus™ Memory Protectors™. These extra pockets, combined with a few ready-to-go Picture My Life™ pocket cards (just another coordinating piece of the Fresh Paint collection, of course!), made including the additional photos a cinch!
Going beyond the workshop, you’ll find another Fresh Paint scrapbook layout idea right on the opening page for the collection in our catalog (it’s so full of ideas!). for each collection, this opening page usually features a single 12″ x 12″ scrapbook page. Take inspiration from this page (or copy it entirely) to start another two-page layout. A 12″ x 12″ pocket page put together with the coordinating pocket cards is an easy way to add a second page that fits with a single page design. In addition to coming ready with coordinating designs, Picture My Life™ cards are also ideal for journaling that slips right into a pocket!
Another easy way to create a two-page layout with this collection is with the ready-made designed elements from the Fresh Paint Digital Art Collection. This is a collection of SVG files that can be used in a digital design application, like Cricut Design Space™, where the images can be manipulated to get just the look you want. You can use the design as-is, or you can resize pieces, remove layers, add new elements, etc. If 12″ x 12″ is not your vibe, then SVGs are a great tool because you can even resize the images to fit a different size format. You can then cut the pieces using your personal cutting machine and your choice of papers. The layout below is one that we cut exactly as it was included in the Digital Art collection, making it a perfect home for memories from a fun friends trip to New York City!
If you’re more open to designing your own scrapbook pages, make use of the Fresh Paint—Scrapbooking Stamp + Thin Cuts! The sentiments and icons on this set of stamps and dies work seamlessly with the Fresh Paint papers, stickers, acrylic shapes, and pocket cards!
However you decide to use the Fresh Paint collection, there is so much potential to document your favorite memories using these nostalgic themes! What stories will you tell with this collection? We love hearing from you, so leave us a comment below and let us know!

101 Interesting Facts About Canada ~
"101 Facts . . . " states that the Trans-Canada Highway is the Longest Highway in the World. The Canadian Encyclopedia disagrees:
The Trans-Canada Highway is a continuous road that allows vehicle travel across Canada. The highway runs through each of Canada’s 10 provinces, from Victoria, British Columbia, to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. At 7,821 km, it is the fourth-longest highway — and second-longest national highway — in the world.
Still very impressive though . . .

Our Final "A Taste of Canada" ~ Sleeman Beer
Sleeman Breweries is a Japanese-owned Canadian brewery founded by John Warren Sleeman in 1988 in Guelph, Ontario. The company is the third-largest brewing company in Canada. Along with its own Sleeman brands, the company produces under licence the Stroh's family of brands, Maclays Ale and Sapporo Premium beers for sale in Canada. The company's parent Sapporo owns 4.2 per cent of Ontario's primary beer retailer The Beer Store.
The company is the re-establishment of a line of brewing companies owned by the Sleeman family dating back to the 1830s. The original Sleeman Breweries was established in the 1850s and operated until it lost its licence due to smuggling and tax evasion, for 50 years, in 1933.
John W. Sleeman re-established the brewery in the 1980s using the original company recipes. In 2006, Sleeman Breweries was purchased by Sapporo Brewery for CA$400 million. John W. Sleeman remained as CEO until 2010 when he relinquished that role and was made Chairman of the company.

Journal Prompt ~ Haiku
The structure of a traditional haiku is always the same, including the following features:
There are only three lines, totaling 17 syllables.
The first line is 5 syllables.
The second line is 7 syllables.
The third line is 5 syllables like the first.
Punctuation and capitalization are up to the poet, and need not follow the rigid rules used in structuring sentences.
A haiku does not have to rhyme, in fact usually it does not rhyme at all.
It can include the repetition of words or sounds.
Book Review ~ The Four Ms. Bradwells by Meg Waite Clayton
The is a book review that I don't really want to do. I read the book. I finished the book. I can't remember much about it. This means it was probably okay but not memorable. I just don't know what else to say. I suppose I could add a description from another source . . .
From Amazon: Mia, Laney, Betts, and Ginger have reunited to celebrate Betts’s appointment to the Supreme Court. But when Senate hearings uncover a deeply buried skeleton in the friends’ collective closet, they retreat to a summer house on the Chesapeake Bay, where they find themselves reliving a much darker period in their past—one that stirs up secrets they’ve kept for, and from, one another, and could change their lives forever.

Canadian Music ~ Cub
Cub (also stylized cub) was an indie pop band from Vancouver, British Columbia that formed in 1992 and disbanded in 1997. They played a melodic, jangly form of pop punk that was dubbed "cuddlecore" by some music critics.
The group was emblematic of the twee pop and cuddlecore style. At their cozy, casual live shows, they sometimes played in their pajamas, and gave out presents to audience members.
The group's original drummer, Valeria Fellini, was replaced by Lisa G. in 1994.
Neko Case played drums on some early recordings and on tour in later years. Notably, she sang live in front of an audience for the first time ever during a cub show in Ohio, singing the song "So Far Apart". Years later she would go on to form her own all-female three piece Vancouver band, Maow.
After the group's dissolution, Robynn Iwata co-formed I Am Spoonbender in 1997 in San Francisco. Lisa Marr and Lisa G. started Buck in 1998 after moving to California from their native Vancouver.
