Canadian Music ~ Danny Fernandes

Daniel "Danny" Fernandes (born September 16, 1985)[1] is a Canadian singer and songwriter. He was signed to CP Records from 2008 until January 2014. Danny Fernandes is of Portuguese descent. He has a younger brother named Jonathan and they are both the younger brothers of Canadian artist Shawn Desman (born Shawn Fernandes). He also is a cousin to another Canadian singer Tyler Medeiros, who signed to Danny's former record label CP records. At 16, Danny Fernandes won two consecutive Rising Star awards in the annual CNE dance contest held at Cherrytree Public School located in Brampton, Ontario, near Toronto. He became the youngest member of the Toronto Raptors' famed Dance Pak and began to appear regularly as a backup dancer in music videos. After graduating from High School, Danny started playing showcases at clubs in Europe (Germany, Switzerland, and Austria), Fernandes signed with the Canadian CP Records (Capital Prophet Records) and released his debut album Intro....

Journal Prompt ~ Special

Today's Prompt: Special What makes you different and unique? How do you stand out from the crowd? I don't know that I do stand out from the crowd. When I am with the crowd it is usually because we have so much in common. Now when I'm alone and doing the stuff that only I find entertaining, that's when I would stand out in the crowd . . . if there were one.

Close to My Heart ~ License to Grill

A Paper Piecing Technique with a License to Grill, and So Much More! We love exploring the techniques and tricks on display in the “flippin’ awesome” artwork from our different publications. A couple of especially eye-catching pieces that we’ve been getting questions about recently are the two cards that were created using the  BBQ Boss Stamp + Thin Cuts , in the  July–September catalog . (The outlined shapes in this image represent the shapes that can be cut with the Thin Cuts metal dies.) Several techniques went into creating these two cards, a few simpler than others. We will go through each of them, step-by-step, so you can feel confident in replicating our cards or applying these techniques to other projects. The first thing to notice on this Thank You card is its layers. We didn’t stamp those “hot stuff” sausage links directly onto the card base, but rather on a smaller piece of  White Daisy cardstock  that we then attached on top of two other cardstock pieces....

Watkins ~ Baking Vanilla

Baking Vanilla = Double Strength When customers say, "I'd like that wonderful Watkins Vanilla," they're almost always asking for All Natural Original Gourmet Baking Vanilla. Don't be confused. This is the same double-strength formula that has been the company's best selling vanilla product for decades. And it still has the extra rich flavor that won't bake out or freeze out. The official name of the product changed to Baking Vanilla more than five years ago, because calling it "double strength" confused people as to how much they should use in their recipes. So, it just got a new name, and Watkins has also improved it by making it all natural. There's no artificial colors or flavors. And, just like it's been for decades, this product is still made with Watkins Pure Vanilla Extract as an important ingredient. You will always want to have an extra bottle of Watkins Baking Vanilla on hand. And, of course, with it bei...

Journal Prompt ~ Politics

Today's Prompt: Politics Please note . . . this is about the voting process and current issues -- not about politicians or political parties. Thank you. What one issue is the most important to you when it comes to voting for your representatives? I have to say my biggest concern or issue is low voter turnouts. People seem to bitch and complain about governments but when they have the opportunity to voice their concerns and effect change they just don't. They just don't vote. I cannot understand it. I think all active voters should get a pin that says "I voted so I can complain. Where's your pin?" The turnout for the last very boisterously and sometimes viciously debated local municipal election was 35%. SERIOUSLY!?!?!?

Journal Prompt ~ Enemies

Today's Journal Prompt: Enemies Have you ever had someone dislike you or try to harm you for no reason? Yes, I actually have had that happen to me but because innocent people could be hurt if I posted the actual event I have to be very vague. Someone tried to take something from me that was very important to me. That person did not succeed.

Book Review ~ Doll-baby by Laura Lane McNeal

Grab a copy of this book for an excellent and rather eccentric read.  Eccentric because that is the perfect description for the wildly unusual characters.  Doll-baby is the novel of some very flawed people living their lives during the civil rights era, the 1960s, in New Orleans. I loved each of the characters on their own merit . . . okay maybe not Ibby's mother so much.  The characters are carefully crafted to full effect for a novel which will tickle your funny bone and warm the cockles of your heart.  Mostly it is about finding family even when they aren't related. An excellent read!

Journal Prompt ~ Food Oddities

What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten? I have many answers for this question. Some of the answers depend on who you are telling because some people wouldn't think these things are odd at all. I love unagi (barbecue eel), sushi, peanut butter and bologna sandwiches, hummus, ground cherries, tofu . . . and now I apparently like pickled herring, dark rum and Marmite. Do you find any of these weird? What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?
