In reality the title of "The World's Largest Totem Pole" is or has been claimed by several towns along the coast, including:
Alert Bay, British Columbia — 173 ft (56.4 m), Kwakwaka'wakw AT 173 feet tall, this is demonstrably the tallest tower of its kind in the entire world, but many people have argued that for a number of reasons it is not worthy of the surprisingly contentious title. The totem pole was built from two sections, one 163 feet tall and the other 10 feet.

McKinleyville, California - Totem Pole was carved in 1962 by Ernest Pierson. A sign informs visitors that at 160 feet in height, it is the world's largest. A totem pole British Columbia is 13 feet taller, but Canada cheated; theirs is made of two poles, one atop the other.
The thickest totem pole ever carved to date is in Duncan, British Columbia, carved by Richard Hunt in 1988, and measures over 6 ft (1.8 m) in diameter. It is carved in the Kwakwaka'wakw style, and represents Cedar Man transforming into his human form.
