Book Review ~ After the War is Over by Jennifer Robson

After the War is Over is the second of three books in a series by Jennifer Robson.   This time around the author focuses on Lilly's former governess and tutor, Charlotte Brown, who has been in love with Lilly's brother, Edward, since the very first time they met.  Edward is engaged.  And then he is serving during WWI and engaged.  And then he comes home a different person.  And don't forget, there is also Edward's haughty titled family to overcome.  Do they ever find the right time for their love?  I guess you better read the book to find out. It is obvious that the author puts a lot of time into research because details and events are so descriptive.  It is a captivating read and should be on your bedside table or in your beach bag.

Canadian Music ~ Cuff the Duke

Cuff the Duke is a Canadian alt-country band from Oshawa, Ontario. They play a blend of traditional country and folk music with indie rock influences. Cuff the Duke formed in Oshawa, drawing their name from a shirt purchased by front-man Wayne Petti at a secondhand shop. Starting as a duo consisting of Petti and Jeff Peers, the band later expanded to include bass player Paul Lowman and drummer Brad Fudge. In 2002 they released their first album, Life Stories for Minimum Wage on Three Gut Records. They spent the next few years touring with Hayden, acting as his backing band. In 2005 they released their second album, Cuff the Duke on Hardwood Records. The line-up for Cuff the Duke has evolved, with the consistent members thus far being Wayne Petti and Paul Lowman. 101 Interesting Facts About Canada ~

"101 Facts . . . " states that the Trans-Canada Highway is the Longest Highway in the World. The Canadian Encyclopedia disagrees: The Trans-Canada Highway is a continuous road that allows vehicle travel across Canada. The highway runs through each of Canada’s 10 provinces, from Victoria, British Columbia, to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. At 7,821 km, it is the fourth-longest highway — and second-longest national highway — in the world. Still very impressive though . . .  If you'd like to learn more just check out this link .

Our Final "A Taste of Canada" ~ Sleeman Beer

Sleeman Breweries is a Japanese-owned Canadian brewery founded by John Warren Sleeman in 1988 in Guelph, Ontario. The company is the third-largest brewing company in Canada. Along with its own Sleeman brands, the company produces under licence the Stroh's family of brands, Maclays Ale and Sapporo Premium beers for sale in Canada. The company's parent Sapporo owns 4.2 per cent of Ontario's primary beer retailer The Beer Store. The company is the re-establishment of a line of brewing companies owned by the Sleeman family dating back to the 1830s. The original Sleeman Breweries was established in the 1850s and operated until it lost its licence due to smuggling and tax evasion, for 50 years, in 1933. John W. Sleeman re-established the brewery in the 1980s using the original company recipes. In 2006, Sleeman Breweries was purchased by Sapporo Brewery for CA$400 million. John W. Sleeman remained as CEO until 2010 when he relinquished that role and was made Chairman of the compan...

Journal Prompt ~ Haiku

The structure of a traditional haiku is always the same, including the following features: There are only three lines, totaling 17 syllables. The first line is 5 syllables. The second line is 7 syllables. The third line is 5 syllables like the first. Punctuation and capitalization are up to the poet, and need not follow the rigid rules used in structuring sentences. A haiku does not have to rhyme, in fact usually it does not rhyme at all. It can include the repetition of words or sounds.

Book Review ~ The Four Ms. Bradwells by Meg Waite Clayton

The is a book review that I don't really want to do.  I read the book.  I finished the book.  I can't remember much about it.  This means it was probably okay but not memorable.  I just don't know what else to say.  I suppose I could add a description from another source . . .  From Amazon:   Mia, Laney, Betts, and Ginger have reunited to celebrate Betts’s appointment to the Supreme Court. But when Senate hearings uncover a deeply buried skeleton in the friends’ collective closet, they retreat to a summer house on the Chesapeake Bay, where they find themselves reliving a much darker period in their past—one that stirs up secrets they’ve kept for, and from, one another, and could change their lives forever.

Canadian Music ~ Cub

Cub (also stylized cub) was an indie pop band from Vancouver, British Columbia that formed in 1992 and disbanded in 1997. They played a melodic, jangly form of pop punk that was dubbed "cuddlecore" by some music critics. The group was emblematic of the twee pop and cuddlecore style. At their cozy, casual live shows, they sometimes played in their pajamas, and gave out presents to audience members. The group's original drummer, Valeria Fellini, was replaced by Lisa G. in 1994. Neko Case played drums on some early recordings and on tour in later years. Notably, she sang live in front of an audience for the first time ever during a cub show in Ohio, singing the song "So Far Apart". Years later she would go on to form her own all-female three piece Vancouver band, Maow. After the group's dissolution, Robynn Iwata co-formed I Am Spoonbender in 1997 in San Francisco. Lisa Marr and Lisa G. started Buck in 1998 after moving to California from their native Vancouver....
