101 Interesting Facts About Canada ~ World's Largest Skating Rink

The Rideau Canal Skateway in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, is 7.8 km (4.8 miles) long and has a total maintained surface area of 165, 621 m² (1.782 million ft²), which is equivalent to 90 Olympic size skating rinks. This is called an ice rink (as distinguished from any number of other frozen bodies of water) because its entire length received daily maintenance such as sweeping, ice thickness checks and there are toilet and recreational facilities along its entire length. We would like to put a claim on the longest (7.8km) and largest in square meters (165, 621 square meters) maintained ice surface on a natural body of water in the world.

A Taste of Canada ~ Figgy Duff

YIELD:8 SERVINGS OR MORE prep time: 10 MINUTES cook time: 1 HOUR 30 MINUTES total time: 1 HOUR 40 MINUTES Newfoundland Figgy Duff has nothing to do with figs; raisins were once referred to as figs here & are always added to this traditional steamed pudding. Ingredients 2 cups flour ½ cup sugar 2 tsp baking powder 1/3 cup melted butter ¾ cup milk 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup raisins Instructions Sift together the flour sugar and baking powder. Add the raisins and toss well. Add the milk, melted butter and vanilla. Mix all together with a wooden spoon just until a soft dough is formed. Put dough into a pudding steamer or a wet heavy cotton pudding bag, tying the bag with a piece of butcher string but leaving about an inch of slack at the top to allow the pudding to expand. Boil for approximately 1 1/2 hours. This is most often done in the pot with the boiled root vegetables, cabbage and salt beef included in a Jiggs Dinner but can be done in a pot on its own as well. https://www.rockr...

Close To My Heart ~ Add Dazzle with Embossing Techniques

Add Dazzle with Embossing Techniques One of the most dazzling embellishment techniques you can incorporate into your creations is heat  embossing ! This technique only takes a few minutes to achieve, but the end result is breathtaking. Today, we’re going to show you a few ways to use  heat embossing  in your artwork, and then take it a step farther by adding color to the interior of your embossed images! Easy Embossing Techniques #embossing #heatembossing #ctmh #CloseToMyHeart #instructional #craftingtechniques #crafting #cards #diy #floral #sweetashoney If you’re not familiar with heat embossing, this technique starts with stamping an image with sticky or viscous ink, like a  VersaMark™ ink pad . You then sprinkle the stamped area with embossing powder, tap off the excess powder, and then pass a special heat tool over the image, allowing the embossing powder to melt into the ink. This leaves you with a  metallic , acrylic, or  UV-coated finish  over y...
