Reuben Slaw ~ r

I really enjoyed this recipe too.  I wish I'd taken photos.  This one was so fun to make with the little grilled Swiss cheese croutons.  The recipe book is called Company's Coming Meal Salads by Jean Pare .  Excellent book Swiss Croutons: 1 tbsp butter of margarine 6 rye bread slices 3 Swiss cheese slices Deli Slaw: 1 cup grated or julienned carrot 1 cupt grated unpeeled tart apple such as Granny Smith 1 cup shredded red cabbage, lightly packed 1 cup wine saueerkraut, drained 1/3 cup Thousand Island dressing 113 g (4 oz.) shaved pastrami or smoked meat, cut into thin strips 1/4 cup chopped dill pickles Spread butter over each bread slice.  Arrange 3 bread slices, butt-erside down, in large frying pan on medium.  Place 1 cheese slice on each.  Top with remaining bread slices, butter-side up.  Cook for about 3 minutes per side until bread is golden and cheese is melted.  Transfer to cutting board.  Let stand for 5 minutes....

A UFO Finish

Last spring I set myself a goal to complete every UFO (unfinished object) and WIP (work in progress) that was cluttering up my closets and piled up in bags and totes all over the apartment.  It has been a pretty huge challenge but as of today . . . TA DA!!!! . . . another finish.  I started this cross stitch several years ago and finished it up today at Ladies Day Out. Only 2 projects left to finish . . .  And then, of course, I will start something new . . . but from now on only one project at a time.

My 50th Birthday Picnic . . .

I was so thrilled at how many of my friends and family made it to my picnic.  The company was witty, the food was delicious, the presents were oh so thoughtful . . . and I had an amazing time.  Thanks everyone for making my day so special. My gorgeous birthday cakes were made by Melissa Lale .   You should give her a call if you need a special cake. I couldn't resist a quick taste . . . you all know how much I love cake.

A hot, humid I AM CANADIAN birthday party.

Happy birthday John!!!!! Catching a breeze. The Queen Let's play hockey! Cake!

What to do on a horribly hot, humid day?

One of the reasons for so many blog posts today is that I am so far behind.  I haven't been feeling well, dealing with dizziness that is driving me crazy.  Apparently it will rectify itself . . . soon I hope. We had the boys over for a sleepover Thursday night.  We had a movie night with pop corn, of course.  Friday morning was spent sketching at the Art Centre.  And then the boys cooked lunch.  It was delicious. We had a great time painting . . . . . . and then a movie and snacks. This photo was taken just before 9 pm Friday night.

Sloppy Joe Menu ~ r

Lettuce and Tomato Salad Sloppy Joe Fresh Strawberries Sloppy Joe 1/2 onion, finely chopped 1 clove garlic, minced 1 tbsp canola oil 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper 260 g ground beef, lean ground pepper to taste 2 tbsp tomato paste 1/4 cup ketchup 1/2 tsp brown sugar 2 tbsp water 4 drops Tabasco sauce (optional) 2 hamburger buns Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.  Add the onion then cook until it is translucent, about 3 minutes with occasional stirring, paying attention not to let it burn.  Add salt, then reduce the heat, cover and cook until the onion is soft, about 5 minutes.  Add the garlic and cayenne pepper then cook with stirring until fragrant, 1 minute. Add the beef then cook, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until it loses its pink colour, about 5 minutes.  It is important not to overcook the meat at this point, otherwise it will end up dry and crumbly. Season with ground pepper to...

Caesar Salad with Shrimp Menu ~r

Barley and Lentil Soup Caesar Salad with Shrimp Gilled Peaches with Cinnamon Cream I did not follow the Caesar Salad with Shrimp recipe from www.soscuisine.com because I still had half the container of Caesar salad mix I bought at Walmart to use up.  So I just sauted some shrimp and added them to the salad mix.   The Barley and Lentil Soup came from my freezer.  The corn on the cob was steamed in my rice/veggie steamer (my favourite kitchen appliance).  But the Grilled Peaches with Cinnamon Cream . . . . Grilled Peaches with Cinnamon Cream 2 peaches or nectarines 1/2 tbsp balsamic vinegar 1 tbsp honey 1/2 tbsp canola oil 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 cup whipping cream 35% Cut the peaches in half and remove the pits.  If the pit does not pull out easily, use a small sharp knife to cut around it. In a medium bowl, combine the vinegar, honey, oil and half of the ground cinnamon.  Dip each peach half into the mixture and tran...

Free All Day Crop, A visit from a Princess, and I got my Scrappin' Mojo back

The "Ladies' Day Out" ladies planned an All Day Crop for July 13th.  There was lots of fun events included in the day.  The day began at 9 am and shortly after that we received a visit from Robin Masse Millson in her adventure for the week . . . The Princess and the Frog. We had Chinese Food for lunch . . . yummy . . . and a pot luck meal including turkey and ham for supper.  So full!!!! We had a crop circle (page kit swap) in the afternoon and each layout was more gorgeous than the next.  I was thrilled with the kits I received.  Here's the layout kit I did. And we had a "swarm" which I'm not sure what it is, but if you have one you can enter a contest through Cricut . . . we all dressed in red and white and had our photo taken as our entry. Charlotte and Deb organized this event.  Deb and Cindy couldn't be in the group photo since they both work for Provo Craft. I wasn't scrapbooking much at all for a while, and then the past month...
