Book Review: Vancouver by David Cruise and Alison Griffiths

When I was looking for a cover photo for this review I happened to glance at a few reviews of this VERY thick paperback . . . 918 pages. Vancouver, written by David Cruise and Alison Griffiths (who apparently are married to each other), has been compared sometimes favourably and sometimes not to books by James Michener. I can see the resemblance in that it is a long well-written, well-researched book about a particular place. The main difference is that each section tells the story of a different person with the only things in common being the location, the fact that they are all stories of down-on-your-luck sorts who make good, and a mystery set of jade beads.

I was mesmerized by the story from beginning to end and think it would be a great read for anyone who enjoys historical fiction.
